“Art is the meeting ground of the world inside and the world outside.”

 ~ Elinor Ulman

Maria believes creativity to be a dynamic visual language and not merely an outcome-oriented process. She considers art to be an intuitive universal language that does not require an individual to be an artist to express creatively. Therefore, Maria utilizes an eclectic approach of integrating the verbal and nonverbal (creative) therapeutic approaches in counseling.

Maria describes her therapy style as a pathway to holistic wellness with a focus on inner strengths and self-exploration. Maria recognizes that therapy may sometimes be an overwhelming experience; however, she develops a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients in a supportive and non-judgmental healing environment.

Maria’s identity based on her ethnic background, academics, and professional experience define her as a global citizen, and her ongoing work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds continues to inspire her multicultural lens. She strives to offer culturally responsive approaches and techniques. She is fluent in speaking four different languages, including English, Urdu, Hindi, Sindhi, and can easily understand a fifth language, Punjabi.

Maria holds the experience of working with diverse populations such as survivors and aggressors of domestic violence, adults with severe persistent mental illnesses (SPMI), individuals experiencing trauma, grief, and loss, cancer survivors, individuals living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, amongst others. Maria offers a therapeutic experience that remains non-judgmental, empathetic, and compassionate while meeting the clients where they are to provide individualized and group counseling services.

Maria is an active member of the American Art Therapy Association. Her master’s degree in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy with specialization in Art Therapy has prepared her to work towards the dual professional credentials as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
