Bio

Billie (she/her) believes people are naturally inclined toward growth and healing, but that there are many barriers in our modern world, including disconnection and lack of opportunities.  Therapy can be a source of empowerment, helping us navigate life’s challenges and find meaning in our experiences, even (or especially) the hard ones.

Billie leverages both the art and science of therapy, integrating cognitive approaches with more relational, creative, and body-based (somatic) approaches.  She has been trained in trauma and dissociation, as well as shorter-term therapies to address specific problems, such as insomnia, nightmares, binge eating, and chronic pain.  In addition, Billie conducts psychological assessments for diagnostic clarification, including trauma, ADHD, and ASD.

Billie enjoys working with older teens, couples, and adults of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life.  Core values include a deep respect for humanity, equality, cultural humility, and life-long learning.  She believes therapy is a place for real connection, tears, laughter, irreverence, and swearing (optional, but encouraged).  Billie is LGBTQIA+ and ENM affirming and strives to take an anti-racist and anti-oppressive stance in her personal and professional life.

Billie took a circuitous route to becoming a therapist, having worked as a training and development professional in the non-profit sector and the financial services, and as both a small business owner and employee.  She received her MA in counseling and psychological services and her PsyD in counseling psychology from Saint Mary’s University of MN.  Prior to joining AOC, she completed training placements with Pipe Trades Services (serving plumbers and pipefitters and their families), Metropolitan State University, University of MN Behavioral Health Clinic for Families, and the Minneapolis VA.
