Bio

Rami is a dedicated art therapist and mental health clinician who creates a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel truly seen, heard, and valued. As a bi-racial Mexican and White individual, Rami understands the complexities of navigating identities that don’t fit neatly within one cultural or racial category. Having often experienced being perceived as “other” by both communities, he brings a unique perspective that honors a deep connection to both ancestries while recognizing the challenges of feeling withheld from the communal belonging each offers. This lived experience allows him to bring empathy and insight to his work, especially with clients who may also feel similarly between worlds.

He approaches therapy with an emphasis on empathy, collaboration, and empowerment, recognizing that each person’s experience is shaped by their unique cultural, social, and personal contexts. Rami collaborates closely with clients to understand their unique perspectives and goals toward their healing and growth. Drawing from an integrative approach, he incorporates trauma-informed, Adlerian, rational behavioral, mindfulness, strengths-based, existential, and person-centered techniques to tailor the therapeutic experience to each client’s needs and preferences.

Having personally navigated cancer as both a survivor and as a family member supporting loved ones through their own diagnoses, Rami brings a unique and compassionate perspective to his work with clients affected by cancer. His experiences have profoundly shaped his understanding of resilience, challenging conventional narratives around illness and empowering clients to approach their journeys with agency and self-compassion. Rami’s own coming-out journey has also influenced his views on strength and vulnerability, leading him to explore ways people can talk about cancer that honor both the challenges and strengths of living through such a transformative experience.

As a gay man, Rami brings both personal and professional insight to his work within the LGBTQIA+ community, fostering empathy and understanding around the unique challenges and strengths that arise, particularly in relation to serious illnesses like cancer and HIV. This has provided Rami with unique understandings when relating complex dynamics around community grief and loss, identity reformation, cultural navigation, as well as insights into the complexities of queer relationships, including serodiscordant (“magnetic”) and ENM. These experiences deepen his commitment to serving and supporting LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals, ensuring that therapy remains an inclusive and affirming space where all identities are respected and celebrated.

Rami is passionate about building a collaborative therapeutic relationship that empowers clients to build resilience, increase self-awareness, and build pathways to meaningful change. Practicing under the supervision of Juliana Thrall, MPS, LPCC, ATR-BC at The Art of Counseling, he is committed to continuous growth as a clinician to provide the highest standard of care. Whether clients seek a safe space to process complex emotions or practical tools to navigate life’s challenges, Rami is dedicated to being a compassionate, affirming presence every step of the way.
